Description
Godwins Lodge consists of two cottages built in the 18th century in a Gothick style, with late 19th-century alterations and 20th-century additions. The cottages are constructed of flint with red brick dressings, featuring plat bands and two flanking brick pilasters on the east and west faces, which have banded flint rustication. The roof is covered with old tiles and has shaped parapeted gable ends. There is a catslide roof over an outshot to the south, a lean-to to the north, and two late 19th-century gabled semi-dormers to the south with segmental-headed sash windows.
The building has a central ridge stack, a stack on the slope to the south with a rusticated flint band, and another stack to the north. It is two storeys tall with a garret. On the east front, there is a circular garret casement with flint keystones, three first-floor arched casements with returned hoodmoulds (the rightmost features Y-tracery), and two ground-floor arched four-panelled doors with glazed upper panels, an overlight, and returned hoodmoulds. There is also a first-floor arched casement with a returned hoodmould in the outshot to the left. The west front is similar, featuring a boarded door and a blank window on the first floor to the left.
