Description
The barn at Field Barn Farm is a Grade II listed building, likely constructed in the second half of the 18th century. It features a timber frame with weatherboard cladding set on a high, chamfered red brick plinth, topped by a half-hipped roof made of Welsh slate. The barn is aisled and consists of six bays, with an additional outshut added to the right side on the southwest. There are opposing central cart entries that have double board doors in hipped-roofed midstrays, and on the northwest side of each entry, there are two doors and a window. The east gable retains some old tarred weatherboard and includes a board door to a hatch, with a bird-hole located to its left.
Inside, two of the northwestern bays are partitioned off, and there is a bird left in the southeast gable. The frame includes jowelled wall-posts on the brick plinth walls, which are braced to the arcade plate and tie-beams. The principal rafters are complemented by curved secondary rafters and braces that extend up to the collars, with clasped through purlins and long raking wind braces. The original rafters and a yoked plank ridge-piece support a boarded roof. The wall framing consists of closely set studs and long raking braces, with some reused timbers present.
