Description
White Cottage is a house dating from the early 16th century, with a circa 1930 addition to the right and a projecting gabled wing to the left. It features a timber frame with white painted brick nogging and a thatched roof, with an off-centre ridge stack to the left. The house is a hall house with three framed bays and stands two storeys tall. On each floor, there are two 20th-century leaded casements; the wing to the left has three first-floor casements and a boarded door with a thatched porch. The bay to the right displays large arch braces. Inside, there is a jettied solar in the left bay, and 17th-century floors and stack have been inserted in the two bays to the right. The interior also includes queen post trusses, wind braces, and smoke blackened roof timbers. This building is a notable example of a late medieval hall house, particularly interesting for its jettied solar.
