Description

West Ilsley House is a house, now divided into five dwellings, dating from the 18th century, with 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of brick, with some mathematical tiles to the south-west gable, and features tiled roofs. The original 18th-century section sits at the centre, with 19th-century extensions to the north-east, north-west, south-east, and south-west, creating an irregular cross shape. The cross wings have gables. The house is two storeys with an attic. Ornate 19th-century bargeboards adorn all gables, and there are two gabled dormers on the south-east wing. Chimneys include a ridge chimney to the south-west of the original build, a ridge chimney to the north-west wing with two diagonal stacks, a chimney with a diagonal stack to the cross gable on the south-west wing, and a stack to the north-east of the south-east wing.

The south-east elevation incorporates a canted oriel with slender glazing bar sashes above a 20th-century entrance door. Further along the elevation are four glazing bar sashes with cambered heads, and a projecting wing featuring a tripartite cross-glazed sash above a canted bay, and a cross-glazed sash high in the gable. A lower gabled projection to the far right has a wide glazing bar sash with a cambered head, and an exposed box.

The south-west elevation displays two cross-glazed sashes to the left. A central cross gable contains a pointed-headed sash in the gable above an ornate gabled porch flanked by sashes with pointed heads. To the right is a gable of a projecting wing with a canted oriel of glazing bar sashes. A Gothic-style entrance door is located under the porch, approached by steps.
