Description

Downs House is a late 18th-century house, altered in the 19th century and restored in the 20th century, located on Main Street, West Ilsley. The building is constructed of red brick with grey bands at the first floor and eaves, topped with a tiled roof. It has a rectangular plan with an outshut to the rear and a service wing to the east of the rear. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and features three gabled dormers and flanking stacks with offset caps. The south elevation includes three bays of glazing bar sash windows, the outer ones tripartite, and a central six-panel door with glazed upper panels. The door is set within a doorcase featuring simple pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The windows are topped with rubbed brick flat arches.
