Description
27 Oxford Street is an early 19th-century town house that stands three storeys tall and features a double front with four windows. The building has a hipped slate roof with projecting eaves and is constructed of multi-coloured stock brick, with slightly recessed end bays. There is a plain sill band on the first floor. The windows are recessed sash types with glazing bars, featuring gauged, segmental red brick arches; the first-floor windows have keys, and there is a round-arched central window that was formerly blocked, complete with imposts. The ground floor also has round-arched windows with keys and imposts. The entrance, which has been moved from the second bay to the west, includes a round-arched doorway with a key, a radial fanlight, and a panelled door. The 1768 Willis map does not show this building, indicating it was likely constructed in the forecourt of an older house that has since been demolished. The house is marked on the 1837 map.
