Description
The High House is an early 19th century town house located on Oxford Street. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and features four windows. The building has a hipped slate roof and is constructed of red brick, which is topped with an oversailing brick cornice and a blocking course. There is a plain stucco band at the first floor level. The recessed sash windows, which have glazing bars, are adorned with gauged flat brick arches, and the first floor windows are set in arched recesses.
A Tuscan portico with attached columns enhances the entrance, which includes panelled reveals, a rectangular patterned fanlight, and a raised and fielded panelled door that is approached by a step. Cast iron railings with urn finials on the standards surround the property. Inside, on a wall in a cupboard in a former ground floor back pantry, there is a date inscription reading "John Hicks 1722" and "Fosdich 1822".
