Description
Englefield Post Office and Shop is a house and shop built in the 18th century, with a 19th-century addition on the right. It is constructed of red brick and features an old tile roof. The building has two storeys and is characterized by a dentil brick eaves cornice and end stacks. On the first floor, there are two glazing bar sash windows with exposed wooden boxes, flanking a central blind window that has a shop sign. The ground floor includes a segmental glazing bar sash window to the left with an exposed wooden box, and a 19th-century canted bay window to the right. This bay window is situated next to two central doors, which have a flat hood; the door on the right is six-panelled with a segmental head, while the door on the left is also six-panelled and features a radial fanlight. To the right, there is a block set back, made of red brick with a slate roof, which is one storey and has a garret. It includes a segmental headed three-light horizontal sliding sash window and a loft door in the right-hand gable end. The building is included for its group value.
