Description

Sulham House and Flats 1, 2, 3 and 4 is a house and service wing, now divided into flats. It dates from the early 18th century and was rebuilt around 1839. The building is made of stuccoed brick with a plinth and string course. It features a cornice and a balustraded parapet on a slate mansard roof, which has five stacks and nine gabled dormers with glazing bar sashes. The structure has two storeys and an attic, with nine bays; the two outer bays are slightly projecting. The glazing bar sashes in the central five bays are set in recessed panels, and the ground floor sashes have aprons. The ground floor sashes in the wings extend to floor level. There is a half-glazed door in the second bay from the right, which has a rectangular two-light overlight above it. Three steps lead up to the central half-glazed door, flanked by low walls and urns. A Doric porch with square columns supports an entablature and parapet. On the garden front, the two left-hand bays are slightly projecting, and there is a ground floor bow with a cornice band and parapet in the third, fourth, and fifth bays from the right. All ground floor sashes extend to floor level, and there are 20th-century louvred shutters throughout. To the west, there is a service courtyard with a two-storey range made of white painted brick and a slate roof, featuring a central wooden cupola topped with a domed lead cap and finial. Inside, there is a square entrance lobby with a classical frieze.
