Description
The Lodge is a cottage built around 1840, featuring white painted render and a thatched roof. The roof is gabled on the north, east, and west sides, adorned with decorative pierced bargeboards, and hipped over a curved rustic verandah on the south side, which has an eyebrow dormer above it. There is a central stack with two patterned octagonal terracotta shafts. The building is one and a half storeys high. On the west side, there is a thatched hipped canted bay with one and two-light 20th-century casements in a lean-to to the left, and a two-light 20th-century casement in the gable end above. A six-light curved window is located beneath the verandah on the south side, and to the left is a four-centered arched boarded door. This cottage is referenced in the Berkshire Architectural Guide by Betjeman and Piper, published in 1949.
