Description
Lenton Abbey is a house, dating from around 1800, with alterations made in the mid-19th century, and now converted into flats. The exterior is stuccoed, with a hipped slate roof and two rear wall stacks. The building has a plinth and deep eaves with wooden modillions. It is two storeys high with an original five-window front, extended to four windows. A central two-storey canted projection is present. A stuccoed porch has pilasters and an entablature, featuring a rusticated round-arched door surround with a keystone, double-glazed doors and a fanlight. A sash window sits above the porch. Flanking the porch are two tall sashes, and above those, four smaller sashes, with one on the right being blank. All windows are plain sashes with moulded surrounds. A canted bay window, single-storey, is on the left return, with three altered lights. At the rear, a wing features a central round-arched doorway with glazed double doors and a fanlight. To the left of this doorway are two tall glazing bar sashes, and to the right is a yard wall with a gateway flanked by piers with ball finials. Above the gateway are four smaller glazing bar sashes. To the left of the wing is another two-storey range with three glazing bar sashes. The garden front has a large mid-19th century addition with plain sashes. Inside, the entrance features an inner doorway with an eared ashlar doorcase and a half-glazed door. The open well stone staircase has iron stick balusters and a ramped wooden handrail.
