Description
Nos 168, 172, and 174 on Castle Street are a short terrace of buildings dating from the early to mid-19th century. This four-storey structure includes a basement and features a channelled stucco ground floor, with the upper part constructed of brick. It has a bracketed stucco cornice below the third floor, along with a cornice, blocking course, and a slate roof. The terrace consists of eight bays, each with glazing bar sash windows framed by stucco architraves. Five of the first-floor windows have bracketed cornices. The outer angular bays are two storeys high, with pilastered corners, a dentil cornice, and corner wreaths. Originally, there were four doors, but one has been converted into a window for No 170. The doors feature rectangular fanlights, with Nos 168 and 174 having linked oval fanlights, and No 168 retains a lantern. The property is enclosed by area railings and dividing walls, which include one gate pier facing the street.
