Description
Nos 48 and 50 on Russell Street are a pair of buildings dating from around 1840. They are two storeys high, with an attic and a basement, constructed from Bath stone. The ground floor is channelled, and they feature a wide flat bracketed eaves cornice and a hipped slate roof. The buildings have four bays, with round-headed glazing bar sash windows framed by architrave surrounds, and raised arched panels on a band between the first-floor windows. On the ground floor, there are French casements that open onto a balcony, which has contemporary cast iron railings. Each building has two-panel doors set in two-storey recessed square bays, topped with a plain bracketed pediment hood that includes antefixae. No 48 has the inscription 'Bath Villa' in Gothic script, along with a hand and wreath door knocker, and retains some arrow-head rails. At the rear of No 48, there is a two-storey bow with three windows made of red brick headers.
