Description
Nos 38 and 38A on Russell Street are early to mid-19th century buildings that stand three stories high with a basement. The basement is rendered, while the upper sections are made of brick with a stucco string course at the first floor level. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, featuring flat eaves and two chimneys. The façade consists of three bays with glazing bar sash windows; the ground floor windows are arched, while those on the upper floors have square heads, adorned with stucco tympana and marginal glazing. The central entrance boasts a six-panel door set in a deep arched recess, framed by engaged Greek Doric fluted columns, with steps leading up to it. Above the door is a radiating and patterned fanlight. No 38A connects to No 40 as a three-story, one-bay link, although the ground and first floor windows have been altered. The building features a parapet.
