Description
This is a former terraced house, now converted into flats, built in the early 19th century and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of brick, faced with Bath Stone ashlar with rustication to the ground floor. The chimneys are of red brick and the roof is slate-covered. The rear elevation appears to be painted or rendered.
The house has a rectangular plan and is four storeys high with a basement. The east-facing street elevation is three bays wide and features Bath Stone ashlar with banded rustication to the ground floor. The main entrance is in the southernmost bay, accessed by stone steps with an iron railing, and features an eight-panelled door under a fanlight. Two round-headed one-over-one sash windows with horns are to the north of the entrance. A wide band course separates the ground and first floors. Each bay above contains one-over-one sash windows with horns, generally reflecting classical proportions, with the tallest sashes at the first-floor level, known as the piano nobile. The first-floor sashes have moulded architraves with entablatures and moulded cornices. The second-floor sashes have moulded architraves and continuous band course cills. The third-floor windows are plainer, with cills but no architraves. A heavy moulded cornice and stepped stone parapet top the façade, concealing a gabled slate-covered roof and a lower, rear mansard roof. The west-facing rear elevation is two bays wide and has uPVC casement windows. The ground floor has a three-light window and a rear access doorway, while the upper storeys have a three-light window and a single-light window each. Two dormer windows are in the mansard roof.
