Description
Old Grove House is a Grade II* listed building, likely dating from the early to mid 17th century. It has two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical south-west front featuring three gables. The exterior has been restored and showcases brick horizontal and vertical banding alongside staggered flint panels. The building includes brick quoins and a dentil string at the first-floor level, as well as a small cut brick dentil eaves cornice that extends up the gable verges. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there is a square chimney stack located to the right of the centre, which has projecting brick panels on either side and an elaborately corbelled head.
The house features three ranges of 19th-century altered four-light casement windows with transoms set in segmental relieving arches, along with one range of two-light windows that have labels. A six-panel door is positioned to the left of centre, accessed via a modern porch. To the left, there is a single-storey extension with a hipped gable. The north-east front is irregular, displaying three hipped gables and some timber framing with brick infilling.
Inside, the layout has been rearranged, but timber studs and rails remain exposed. A large fireplace features a depressed brick Tudor arch and a lintel above that retains one mask bracket. Some oak panelling is still present, and there is a large inglenook in the kitchen, complete with a carved lintel above.
