Description
The Stable Block at Highdown School in Emmer Green dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond with occasional dark headers. The building has two storeys, a modern tiled roof, and a ridge chimney. There is a brick block eaves cornice, and the facade features eight irregularly spaced two-light casement windows with leaded glass, one of which is located to the far left behind a garden wall. On the ground floor, there is a five-light window and three bullseye windows above the doors. The former coach entrance has been modified with a modern central wood lintel and now contains three glazing bar casement windows. Various doorways are present, and there is a half-dormered doorway on the first floor to the left, accessed by steps and a ramped garden wall. This stable block is associated with Caversham Grove and is now part of Highdown School.
