Description
4 and 6 Villiers Road are a pair of semi-detached houses built in 1855, possibly designed by T.E. Owen. The houses are finished in stucco and feature a low pitched hipped roof covered with Welsh slate, with rendered stacks at the center and to the right. They rise to three stories and have four bays, arranged in a 2:2 pattern.
The wide stuccoed strips at the quoins and the horizontal rustication at the ground floor add to the architectural detail. No. 4 has a six-panelled door on the left, with the upper four panels glazed and an overlight set in a 20th-century plain recessed surround. To the right of No. 4 and to the left of No. 6, each house features a rectangular stone bay window with wide flanking pilasters and narrow pilasters that divide the tripartite four-pane sashes at the front and single return sashes. A frieze and band cornice are broken over the entrance to No. 4.
On the first floor, both houses have two twelve-pane sashes set within moulded architraves, while the second floor has six-pane sashes with a sillband course. The projecting eaves are supported by modillion brackets. The entrance to No. 6 features a 20th-century door with a fanlight in a narrow recessed two-storey extension on the left, which has flanking pilasters at the ground floor, a plain band course, a small round-headed window above, and an unmoulded cornice with a blocking course parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
