Description
The Provost's House is a house located on Pembroke Road in Portsmouth. It was refaced in the mid-19th century, although it is based on an earlier building. The exterior is stuccoed, and it has a plain tile roof with rendered stacks on both the left and right sides. The house is two storeys high and features seven bays. It has long and short quoin strips.
The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with two leaves and an overlight, set within a panelled reveal. This is flanked by panelled and fluted pilasters, with console brackets above that support a large triangular pediment adorned with relief ornament in the tympanum. Each side of the entrance and on the first floor, there are three four-pane sash windows, which are also flanked by pilasters. A bracketed sillband is recessed between the windows, and there is a frieze and string course running at window head level. The ground floor features a broken entablature with curved pediments above the windows, and the flanking first floor windows have triangular pediments. The eaves cornice is moulded and dentilled, and there is a balustraded parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
