Description

Warren Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century or early 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. Originally timber framed, it features a small brick wing on the left-hand side. The main section was refronted in brick with limestone dressing in a Jacobean style during the 19th century. The house has a tiled roof and a large central stack with four diagonal shafts, along with a second stack at the left-hand end, where the lower part is made of rubble greensand stone and the upper part is brick and limestone with three diagonal walls. The gables are stone coped, with shaped kneelers and finials.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a cellar. The south front consists of four bays, with a gable at each end. There is a projecting porch in the second bay from the right, opposite the main stack, featuring a Tudor arched doorway. The windows are stone mullioned casements with three and four lights, each with hoodmoulds. The older projecting gabled wing on the left is built with small bricks in English bond and has one window on the gable end. The rear elevation is tile hung.

Inside, jowled posts and wall framing are visible at the east end of the first floor. The interior also contains several panelled oak doors from the 17th century or earlier, and four moulded stone fireplace surrounds, though only one is currently visible. Historically, the farmhouse is said to have been used as the County Assize Court. The 19th-century renovation was carried out by the Bedford Estate, who are still the owners.
