Description
Lion House is a house that was formerly an inn, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of limewashed brick and has a slate roof with a central chimney. The building has two storeys and features a first-floor string course at different levels.
The north front was originally five bays, but the right-hand and center upper bays are now blocked. The center bay has a slight projection, with the upper part being timber framed and small cornices at each level, along with a slate pentice above. The entrance features a six-fielded panelled door flanked by narrow fluted pilasters, topped with a plain fascia and an enriched cornice.
To the right of the entrance, there is a half-glazed shop door, a modern window on the left, and a canted bay window on the right. A sash window is located on the first floor. To the left of the center, there is another sash window, and on the far left, there is a carriageway with exposed timber framing on the flank wall, along with two sash windows on the first floor.
