Description
10 Market Square is a late 17th century, two-storey stone house featuring a steeply pitched early tiled roof and brick chimney stacks. The front is cement rendered, and it has late sash windows that are nearly flush framed. There are three windows on the first floor; the two outer ones are wide with glazing bars, while the central one is narrow. A wide central entrance recess has a heavy, simple wooden surround, deep panelled reveals, and a panelled soffit. To the left of the entrance is a door to the house, which has six panels (four fielded and two glazed), and to the right are double doors leading to a butcher's shop, which features a late 19th century window. To the left of the entrance, there is a wide segmental-headed sash window. Inside, the house has a good early 19th century staircase, four-panel doors throughout, and several stop-chamfered beams. Nos 36 to 40 (even) Church Street form a group with Stratford House, Mill Lane, and all the listed buildings in Market Square.
