Description

This is a two-storey building dating from the 17th century, originally part of the Wolverton Urban District Council Offices and subsequently used as offices for the Milton Keynes Directorate of Recreation. It is located on the east side of Market Square in Stony Stratford. The building has a steep slate roof, a cement-rendered white painted front, a small plinth, chamfered quoins, and a small moulded cornice with a box cast-iron gutter. It features late 3-light mullioned and transomed wooden casement windows, with three on the first floor and two on the ground floor. Each window is set within a lugged moulded architrave with a moulded sill. The ground floor has a wide doorway with sidelights, plain pilasters, and a dentil cornice. The ground floor openings feature a plain frieze and cornice above them. The building forms a group with numbers 36 to 40 Church Street, Stratford House, and Mill Lane.
