Description
38 Church Street is a 17th century, low two-storey half-timbered house featuring a steeply pitched early tiled roof and ridged brick chimney stacks, along with two hipped dormers. The front of the building is cement rendered and painted. It has two windows on each floor, which are 18th century with glazing bars. To the left of the entrance, there is a three-light canted bay window. The other windows have moulded wooden cases and light sills. The doorcase is adorned with reeded pilasters and a flat hood supported by plain consoles. The entrance features a six-panel door, with the top four panels being moulded and the lower two incised.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 36 to 40 Church Street, Stratford House on Mill Lane, and all the listed buildings in the Market Square.
