Description

This is a late 18th century building, originally two houses, on Church Street in Stony Stratford. The front is diapered brick, with a shallow-pitched slate roof and deep eaves featuring paired brackets. Four brick chimneys are present. The upper floors have four widely spaced sash windows with glazing bars, set within plain wooden frames, shallow stucco reveals, and small sills. The window heads are slightly arched with keystones. A moulded band runs along the first-floor level. The ground floor is cement rendered, with windows at each end similar to those above. A wooden colonnade of four bays sits in the centre, with plain piers supporting an entablature featuring a triglyph frieze. Originally, there were paired doorways with windows between, but the central entrance is now at the left, with three other bays containing late 2-light casement windows. A two-storey brick extension is attached to the right, with bracketed eaves, a slate roof, and two 4-centred arch headed windows on the first floor. A modern window is on the ground floor, to the right of a coach arch. The building forms a group with Stratford House, Mill Lane, and the listed buildings in the Market Square.
