Description

Calverton Lodge is a villa dating from circa 1840, built in an asymmetric Gothic style. Constructed of yellow brick, it stands within its own grounds and has later extensions to the south-west, along with a coach house block. The roof is slate-covered with brick chimneys. The front elevation features three windows on the first floor, each set within a shallow gable. The windows are 'Y' glazed casements with four-centred relieving arches above, set in painted brick headers. The first floor windows are two-light, while the ground floor has a five-light bay to the left and a two-light casement to the right. A porch is located in the west angle, set diagonally with angle buttresses and featuring slit windows on either side. The porch has a four-centred arch over a door of beaded planks, with a 'Y' type painted window above, set within a gable. A pine-cone finial tops the porch. The building is part of a group that includes numbers 34, 35A, 35, and 38, along with the street wall and gates leading to number 38.
