Description
Stony Stratford Baptist Church is a Grade II listed building that was originally established in 1657 and rebuilt in 1823, with some elements of the old structure, including a wooden window frame, preserved in the vestry. The church was enlarged in 1935 and features a two-storey gable end facing the street with three windows. It is constructed of red brick with yellow brick diaper patterns and has stone dressings, including bands over the first and second floors, a segmental arch above the date plaque, and kneelers. The round-headed windows have glazing bars, and the ground floor includes a round-headed window of coloured glass with marginal glazing, flanked by two round-headed doorways with fanlights and round-headed panelling, which are now obscured by a recent three-window narthex. The sides have a double modillion cornice made of brick. Inside, the church has a straightforward layout featuring a 17th-century pulpit and gallery at the southeast end. The 1935 addition is a brick block with stone dressings on the northeast side. The Baptist Church, along with Nos 7 to 9 Horsefair Green, forms a cohesive group.
