Description
The Public Hall, dated 1844, is located on the north-east side of High Street in Stony Stratford and includes No 1 Wolverton Road. This two-storey building features three bays, with the central bay adorned by a pediment supported by wide piers. The tympanum is flush with the piers and contains a blind circular panel inscribed with 'British School 1844'. The structure is built of yellow brick and has a shallow slate roof with a moulded eaves cornice.
On the first floor, there are two sets of three round-headed casement windows with radiating glazing in their heads and common sills supported by brackets. A central window has been inserted on the ground floor, with doors located in arched recesses that feature fanlights in stilted arches. The building has curved corners, and the roofline continues to No 1 Wolverton Road, which is constructed of painted red brick. This section has three round-headed casement windows with radiating glazing on the first floor, common sills on brackets, and cambered heads above the entrance and a large ground floor window.
The Public Hall and the adjacent properties Nos 2 to 24 (even), 24a, 26, and 28 form a group, with Nos 14, 16, and 20 noted for their local interest.
