Description
No 5 High Street is a two-storey house built in the 1880s, designed by architect Swinfen Harris. The building features a gabled attic and showcases a variety of decorative surface treatments. It is constructed of brick and has a tiled roof with a crested ridge and end stacks. The left-hand verge is obscured by No 3.
On the left side, there is a gabled dormer, while the right side has a large jettied timber-framed gable. Below both windows, there are brick nogging and plaster panels. The main gable displays blind tracery on its corner posts, along with a moulded jetty beam and bargeboards. The house has casement windows, and on the first floor to the left, there is a five-light wooden rectangular oriel window that is mullioned and transomed, featuring small panes in the upper lights.
The ground floor includes a double shop front with a recessed entrance and a small passageway leading to the rear on the left side. An ornate wrought iron weathervane is mounted on the roof, featuring a panel with "W.51.W" in openwork.
