Description
23 High Street is a small two-storey stone house dating from the 17th century and later. The front is cement rendered with quoins, and it features an early tiled roof with one stone and one brick chimney stack. A large central dormer contains two late two-light casement windows. On the first floor, there are two widely spaced windows, which are 19th-century sashes set in wide wooden cases with a moulded edge that is almost flush with the wall.
On the ground floor, to the left of the central entrance, there is an early 18th-century single hung sash window in a plain wooden case, with reveals and a segmental arched head featuring a keystone. The low doorway has a plain frame and a partly glazed door. To the right of the doorway is a restored late 18th-century shallow bow window with glazing bars.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 23 to 49 (odd) High Street, with Nos 29 to 37 (odd) being of local interest only.
