Description

This is a late 18th-century building on the south-west side of High Street, Stony Stratford. It is two storeys and has an attic, with a six-window front. The brick facade has red brick surrounds to the first-floor windows. The ground floor has wide shop windows with pilasters supporting the fascia. The steep pitched roof is covered in early tiles and features high verges, kneelers with a moulded brick capping, and two brick chimney stacks. Three flat-topped dormers contain two-light casements. The first floor has sash windows with near-flush framed wooden cases, flat arched heads and glazing bars. A string course remains at first-floor level. A high, pedimented stone doorcase is located below the third window from the right, with plain pilasters supporting an entablature and triangular pediment that reaches to the sill of the first-floor window. The reveals and soffit are panelled, and the door has a rectangular light above. A plainer, chamfered doorcase is situated on the left. The building forms a group with numbers 23 to 49 (odd) High Street, including number 25A, with numbers 29 to 37 (odd) being of local interest only.
