Description

39 High Street is a small, low two-storey house dating from the 17th century or earlier. The front is rendered and features late 19th-century windows along with a small shop. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with early tiles, with the ridge stepped up halfway along from the left end where there is a brick chimney stack. Two later brick stacks emerge from the slope of the roof, and there is a hipped dormer on the left. The small shop front has a door on the left and three pilasters, with a small three-light bay to the left. The rear wall appears to continue from No 41, known as The Old George, which is part timber framed. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 23 to 49 (odd) High Street, with Nos 29 to 37 (odd) being of local interest only.
