Description
The Alcove, located in Weston Park, is a garden building dating from the mid-18th century. It has a hexagonal shape and is constructed of coursed rubblestone, with the interior rendered. The front is open and features two Doric columns, an entablature, and a hipped slate roof. There are seats along the back walls. The Alcove was built as a viewpoint along the path that led from the Rustic Bridge to The Wilderness via the now-felled Lime Avenue in Weston Park. It was a popular spot for the poet William Cowper during his time in Olney and later at Cowper's House in Weston Underwood.
