Description

The structure is a wall with an attached stone pier and a pair of gate piers located north of Chicheley Hall, dating from the 18th century. It is part of the original garden layout designed by George London. The tall ashlar stone pier features a rusticated effect and vermiculation on the north face, along with a moulded cornice and a large enriched double scroll at the top of the wall. There is a small blank arch on the south face of the hall, which includes keyblocks and reminiculated quoins. The attached wall is made of rubble stone on the north face, with a backing and raising in brick. The pair of gate piers at the northwest corner are constructed of brick and have moulded stone cornices and ball finials. The western wall connects to the service wing and includes a gothic arched gateway with a raised brick keyblock and impost, as well as a fielded panelled tympanum.
