Description

This is a late 18th-century brick house with a slate roof, situated on the south-west side of High Street, Stony Stratford. It features a ground-floor shop and three floors, with unevenly spaced windows. The upper floors have sash windows with retained glazing bars, set within reveals and topped by plaster lintels featuring a keystone and plain sills.

The early 19th-century shop front is particularly noteworthy. The left-hand bay is rectangular with curved ends and numerous panes of glass, topped with a sloping brass sill. Above the shop front is an entablature bearing the inscription "Cox and Robinson" in raised lettering, and a decorative cornice with crimped fringes and bobbin reel moulding. A central doorway is flanked by pilasters with rosette capitals. The door itself is of six panels with decorative glazing above. The reveals and soffit are also panelled. To the right of the main shop window is a shallow, three-light bow window with numerous panes and sliding shutters, surmounted by a mortar and pestle. A gas lamp fixture is positioned above the entrance. Original late 18th/early 19th-century shelving has been retained within the shop.

The interior of the shop retains some original shelving. The building forms a group with numbers 59 to 77 (odd) High Street.
