Description
The National Westminster Bank, located at 80 High Street in Stony Stratford, is a mid-18th century building. It stands three stories tall and is constructed of red brick with black headers. The first and second floors feature three sash windows, with plaster heads and keys above the windows on the first floor. The building has a shallow slate roof that extends longer than those of the neighboring properties at Nos 76 and 78, and it is adorned with a brick modillion eaves cornice. The ground floor is plastered, and there is a central three-light glazing bar window for the bank, which has a fascia and cornice above it, concealing a three-course brick band. The doorcase is flanked by engaged Ionic columns and topped with an entablature, and there is a rectangular light above the door. At the rear, there is a gabled projection featuring a traceried fanlight in the gable. The bank is part of a group that includes Nos 62 to 86 (even), along with Nos 66A, 70A, and 86A, as well as Nos 88 to 106 (even) and the former St Anthony Franciscan preparatory school.
