Description

An early 19th-century brick building, originally a range of three houses at 7-9 Horsefair Green. Number 8, in the centre, is the oldest part and represents the remodelling of a house built in 1764 on the same site. The front is rendered with stucco and features end quoins. Number 8 has a three-window facade with double-hung sash windows containing glazing bars, and a central doorcase with pilasters. The ground floor has two flat bows with a dentil cornice. Number 7 has a single-window facade with double-hung sash windows containing glazing bars and painted stucco surrounds; it includes a simple pilastered doorway with a rectangular light above. Number 9 is similar to numbers 7 and 8, with a two-window facade and a central doorcase. The rear of the building incorporates a light diaper of blue brick headers. A Royal Fire Insurance mark, in red and green, is still visible. There is a blocked depressed arch to the left side, and the building retains evidence of a fire insurance plaque. Numbers 7-9, along with the nearby Baptist Church, form a group.
