Description
The Old Manse is a mid-18th century building located on the north-east side of High Street in Stony Stratford. It is two storeys tall with a mansard roof, featuring five near flush framed windows and three gabled dormers with an old tiled roof. The building has high verges supported by simple kneelers and rebuilt gable end chimneys. After a fire in 1742, it was rebuilt in brick, except for the rear wall which remains in stone. Architectural details include a moulded eaves cornice and a four-course band above the ground floor. The ground floor windows have cambered heads and late sash designs, while the first-floor windows retain old glazing. The doorway features a moulded flat hood and a door with six raised and fielded panels, topped by a rectangular light. The south-west gable end has a blind window on the first floor, while the north-east gable end includes a first-floor sash window with old glazing.
