Description
Star Hill House is a late 18th-century house located at No. 22 Star Hill in Rochester. It is built of Flemish bond gault brick and features a tiled roof. The house has a half basement and three storeys, with five bays. The ground floor has four 12-pane sash windows and the first floor has five 12-pane sash windows, while the second floor has five 6-pane sash windows, all set under flat rubbed brick arches.
The entrance is highlighted by a Portland stone perron staircase with a rusticated base, leading to a central segmental window adorned with cast-iron grille work. The front railings are damaged but consist of cast iron 'X' frame panels and a balustrade. A wooden Doric porch features two fluted rectangular piers and two pilasters, topped with a triglyph frieze and a flat roof, which supports Gothick cast-iron balcony railings above.
The first floor is divided by a plat band, and the eaves have a projecting modillion cornice that is plastered and returns on the gables as plat bonds. The roof is equipped with two stacks on the verged gables. At the rear, there is a three-bay facade with a central stair bay projection that includes an arched window, with all sashes featuring glazing bars.
