SZ38NE SHALCOMBE 1354-0/5/142 Columbarium at Shalcombe Manor

GV II

Disused dovecote. Possibly C16. Exterior is of stone rubble with ashlar quoins and is no longer roofed. A rectangular structure with gables and central doorcase with cambered architrave. The interior retains its clunch nesting boxes. One graffito is dated AM 1778 but the dovecote appears much earlier than this. (C W R Winter: The Manor Houses of the Isle of Wight: 128 - 130).
