Description

Churchill's Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, likely built in the early 17th century with alterations made in the late 17th century and further changes in the 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with end brick chimneystacks. The building has two storeys and a basement, with three windows. It is an early example of an end stack house.

On the first floor, there are three 17th-century mullioned windows. The ground floor has lost its original windows, but the hood moulding remains, and the current windows are smaller mid-19th century six-paned sashes with patches of brickwork on the sides. There is a central porch with a gable and kneelers. The rear elevation includes an outshut and a slate inscribed "1666 Londinium."

Inside, the farmhouse has a cellar that features a bread oven, a stone chimneypiece with a wooden bressumer, a crane for pots, and wattle and daub walls. The kitchen on the ground floor has an ovolo-moulded spine beam with lambs tongue stops and raised plank panelling. The parlour contains a fire window stone fireplace with a wooden bressumer and an overmantel that was originally plastered in the centre, flanked by elaborate carved wooden pilasters. Above the pilasters is another ovolo-moulded spine beam with lambs tongue stop and bulbous pendant decoration. The panelling in the parlour dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century.
