Description
Dodpits is a house with a core dating from the 16th or early 17th century, featuring a new entrance range built around 1830. The front range, which faces end on to the street, is constructed of coursed Bembridge Limestone rubble and has a slate roof with end stone chimneystacks. It is two storeys tall and has three windows, with a gable end that includes kneelers and 16-pane sash windows. There is a central stone porch with a gable, kneelers, and a two-centred arch. Above the porch is the Way family shield with a wheatsheaf design. There is a parallel range built in 1841 that matches the style of the front range. The rear part of the house, which incorporates the earlier core, is one and a half storeys tall, rendered, and has a tiled roof with a large 18th-century brick chimneystack. It features three gabled dormers and modern casement windows. Inside, there is a four-inch chamfered spine beam with an elaborate lamb's tongue stop. The front range also contains an early 19th-century staircase with stick balusters and scrolled tread ends.
