Description
Lower Calbourne Mill is a mill and mill house from the 18th century that was altered and possibly heightened around 1890. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble with brick dressings and features a slate roof with one brick chimneystack. The building has two storeys and four windows, which include cambered sashes or casements with red brick dressings. The gable ends are supported by kneelers. The original mill wheel has been replaced by a steam turbine from the 1920s, and there are two pairs of millstones. An attached bakery includes a large bread oven. At the time of the survey in 1988, the mill was still operational for making flour.
