Description
Hill Farmhouse is a house that was originally a farmhouse, built in the second half of the 17th century and extended in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from Isle of Wight stone rubble, with the right side elevation covered in stucco, and features a slate roof with end brick chimneystacks. The building has two storeys and an attic in a projecting gable, with three windows on the front elevation.
The original layout was T-shaped, with an additional 19th-century range added to the rear. The front elevation includes a central projecting gabled porch that features original two-light mullions and a drip moulding, along with an obtusely pointed arched door that has a hood moulding above and an original studded plank door with pintle hinges. The other first-floor windows are three-light 19th-century casements set in stone surrounds. On the left side, there is a ground floor window with a double moulded 17th-century surround, although the window itself is later. The building also has a plinth and drip mould.
The left side elevation showcases 17th-century stone mullioned surrounds and an obtusely pointed arched doorcase. The rear elevation features a central two-storey mid-19th-century extension with a hipped slate roof and triangular-shaped end lights. Inside, there is a dining room that includes a thick spine beam and an open fireplace, along with stone flagged floors and a 19th-century stick staircase.
