Description
No. 6 The Strand is a small villa built around 1830 or 1840. It is two storeys high and has a stucco exterior with a plinth, flanking pilasters, and a band between the storeys. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, covered with slate, and features wide eaves. The villa has three windows, with the center one being blind, set in a slightly projecting entrance bay. The windows are recessed, sash-style, without glazing bars, and have block sills with fretted blind cases. The entrance has a modern panelled door and a semi-circular fanlight with radial glazing bars, all set within an arched recess. There are three steps leading up to the door, and the building is topped with stucco parapets adorned with reclining lions.
The front facing the North Esplanade is similar to the entrance front but includes a two-storey canted bay with three windows, featuring a cornice and blocking course. The western windows on the first floor have an architrave surround, while the ground floor windows have a cornice supported by scrolled brackets with shell ornamentation. There is also a flat-roofed two-storey addition to the west, which has one window and a round-headed doorway leading to The Strand.
Nos. 1 to 7 and Nos. 9 to 20 form a group with this building.
