Description
50 and 50A The Strand is a villa built around 1840 to 1850, which was divided into two houses early on. The building has two storeys and a basement, with a facade made of stone cut to resemble bricks and rendered quoins. It features a frieze, a moulded sill course at the first floor, and a plinth. The low-pitched hipped slate roof has wide eaves.
There are four windows, two of which are in a bow shape across both storeys. These windows are recessed, sash style without glazing bars, and have block sills on the ground floor. The entrance has a panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight, flanked by paired pilasters and a keystone that breaks into a frieze cornice projecting from the sill course. A flight of nine steps leads up to the porch, which has rendered parapets, copings, and capped piers.
To the west of the bow, there is an identical porch in a two-storey extension, also faced in stone cut to imitate bricks. The porches are enclosed and feature Doric pilasters at the corners, with an entablature above. The recessed panelled doors have semi-circular fanlights and are flanked by pilasters with moulded arches and keystones above.
