Description
Invicta, Shorwell Stores, and Whites is a shop and three houses dated 1824, located on Main Street in Shorwell. The building features an irregular range constructed of Flemish bond diaper brickwork, red brick with vitrified headers, and a slate roof with red brick chimneystacks. It has two storeys and five windows.
Invicta has one 16-pane sash window set in a moulded architrave and an open pedimented doorcase with pilasters, panelled reveals, and a six-fielded panelled door. Shorwell Stores includes a right side projecting gabled bay with an attic semi-circular fanlight, a first-floor curved three-light 20-pane bay, and a ground floor with a curved 36-pane shopfront. It also has a central 12-paned sash window with horns and a central doorcase featuring a pediment with brackets, pilasters, and a six-panelled door. To the left, there is a similar first-floor bow and shopfront added in 1953 to match the existing ones in the gable. Whites features one 16-pane sash window and a left side open pedimented doorcase with pilasters, panelled reveals, and a six-fielded panelled door.
