Description

Greenkirtles and The Green is a row of three cottages, originally four, located on Main Street in Shorwell. The cottages date from the 17th century, while Greenkirtles is partly from the 17th century and partly from the 18th century, with a gable dated 1901. They are constructed from Isle of Wight stone rubble, featuring thatched roofs and brick chimneystacks. The buildings are two storeys high with seven windows in total.

Greenkirtles has a 17th-century left bay that was remodeled in 1901, which includes one casement window with brick dressings and hood mouldings on the ground floor, and a deep plinth. The gable is dated 1901. To the right is the 18th-century section, which has two 20th-century wooden casements and a central plank door set in a tiled penticed surround. The central cottage is from the 18th century, featuring two early 19th-century metal casements with pintle hinges on the first floor, while the ground floor has modern casements. The original doorcase was in the center but has been blocked to form a window, with a plank door now located in the angle.

The Green, dating from the 17th century, has two three-light wooden mullioned casements with leaded lights on the first floor, and a modern casement and a left-side plank door in a 20th-century wood and glazed porch on the ground floor. The interior includes a wooden cupboard with H hinges. Iona, one of the cottages, was previously listed on 21 July 1951.
