Description

Gothic Cottage, circa 1840, was originally built as servants’ quarters for the neighbouring property at No. 13. The two-storey building has a stucco facade with a decorative band separating the floors and pilasters on either side. It was Gothicised with cross gables facing east and west. The west gable features ornamental bargeboards, and the pilasters are topped by octagonal chimney stacks. There are six windows on the first floor, including a three-window, two-storey canted bay. The windows are recessed casements with glazing bars, splayed reveals and drip moulds. A small lancet window sits above the front door. A window under the west gable is an oriel design, featuring three casement lights, a stepped panelled apron, a decorative frieze, and a lean-to roof. The ground floor centre window of the bay is a French casement, and the left-hand ground floor window is also a French casement with side lights. A diamond-shaped panel displaying a coat of arms is positioned below the oriel, also with a drip mould. The porch has a splayed Tudor arch, and the recessed panelled door features two lancets. A small, octagonal turret flanks the porch on the right.
