Description

Suffolk Towers is a large detached villa built around 1850 to 1860 in the Osborne style. It has two storeys and attics, faced in coursed cement, with flanking vermiculated coursed pilasters and bands between the storeys, which are at different levels due to the sloping site. The building features superimposed flat fronted bow windows on either side of the tower porch, each with three lights, sash windows, and later glazing bars. The pilasters extend down into panelled aprons, and there is a frieze and cornice that break forward to the centre, along with fretted blind cases. A semi-attic window breaks through the eaves, adorned with an ornamented bargeboard gable and finial.

The tower porch is designed in three stages, with the upper stage rising clear of the roof. It is flanked on the ground floor by vermiculated pilaster strips, and on the first and second floors by Doric pilasters doubled at the corners, with a frieze and cornice on each floor. The entrance features recessed double doors, which are panelled below, with two round headed lights above and a semi-circular fanlight. There are flanking pilasters with a moulded arch and keystone above. The first floor has two narrow round headed windows that are separated and flanked by Doric pilasters. The third floor is square and repeats the second floor's design on each side, topped with a balustrade that has urns on the corner piers. Set back behind the main hipped slate roof with wide eaves is an additional storey, which has one recessed sash window with later glazing bars.
